JarrettThor Fine Arts will present Barbara Brennan’s new paintings of old, abandoned buildings in the Northern Neck of Virginia. The Opening Reception and Meet the Artist will be Friday June 10 from 6-9 PM and the exhibit will hang until July 4. The public is invited free of charge.

Barbara is an oil painter from Falls Church and Westmoreland County. She is retired from a 31-year career as exhibit designer and Chair of the Exhibits Design and Technology Department at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. Barbara is also an adjunct professor at George Washington University.

Her exhibit includes paintings of stores and farms from Dahlgren, Menokin, Montross, Warsaw, Colonial Beach, and even Farmers’ Fork. All of them show elements of the prevailing style of their times. By seeing the best of the past, we might all learn something about making better use of and preserving today’s best.

On site at JarrettThor in Colonial Beach (100 Taylor St.) will also be the Tarver Harris Design Studio featuring fine textiles and paintings. JarrettThor also has decorative minerals, unique jewelry, wooden bowls and reed baskets. Hours are Thursday-Sunday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and other times by appointment.
